What is a mechanical aptitude test?

A mechanical aptitude test is an exam used to assess a person’s mechanical principle comprehension. This will determine whether a person can take a mechanical principle and use it to solve a problem or to answer a question. This test uses images or pictures to ask questions about mechanical concepts. The exam will cover areas such as: gravity, velocity, friction, pressure, and energy, to name a few. There are several types of this test. The United States Armed Forces uses a type of mechanical aptitude test known as the ASVAB. The ASVAB along with the Barron’s test is the most common type of mechanical aptitude test. That test uses ten tests to evaluate a test takers academic ability. The Wiesen test of mechanical aptitude, which measures how well a person can use and maintain a machine, can give insight as to how a person will perform in the future, as far as operations go.

Why is this test useful for employers?

This test will let an employer know whether or not a person has good or undeveloped spatial skills and mechanical skills. This exam will help assess whether a person will be able to understand mechanical operating systems and functions.
